New
Strengths and Old Favorites
The Title Design level incorporates a project view
(basically a visual outline of the structure of the course) and a thumbnail view of the
course (tiny pictures that show frames that have been developed, and how they relate to
one another); this "big picture view" is unmatched in any other authoring tool
and is a critical feature for project maintenance, collaborative development, and the
ability to get a "snapshot view" or a course.
- WYSIWYG development environment is Quest's
identifying trademark. The object list shows every content piece which has been created
from drag and drop tooltab in a single view. This highly visual development environment is
why Quest is the preferred complete authoring tool among new developers.
- The QuickStart template system provides a means of
quickly creating quality courses. An opening wizard and template set that lets authors
pick the type of title they want to create, then sets it up for them drawing from a
library of pre-created course structures; they also select the "look and feel"
they would like applied to the course, and the wizard applies it throughout the course.
- ActiveX support. In layman's terms, this means that
third-party tools, such as 3-D controls, virtual reality objects, streaming video,
streaming audio, HTML objects, and calendar objects, can be used inside Quest 6.0. It also
means that Quest titles can likewise be embedded inside other documents. For example, you
can embed a Quest title inside a form for true just-in-time learning. Or you can put a
Quest title inside an HTML-based home page.
- True 32-bit application from the ground up. This
means faster animations, better performance when playing multiple-multimedia events,
quicker special effects, etc.
- Enhanced and simplified capabilities for creating
online learning
- A QuickStart template system, offering an opening
wizard and template set that lets you pick the type of title you want to create, then
automatically sets it up for you
- Project View window that works like the course map in
Designer's Edge-you can see your entire project in a tree view and navigate from the map
- Master resource list shows and controls the source
directories and folders where your media files are located whether on a network, intranet,
or the Internet
- Shade object. Now, in addition to drop shadow on
text, you can add drop shadows to any Quest object or group of objects, even irregularly
shape and that shadow can have any degree of opacity
- Anti-aliasing on text
- New 32-bit list box control object
- Faster refresh painting of objects
- Concurrent frames, allowing objects from another
frame can be active with the current frame
- Two additional generic variable types
- Double-byte support for larger font sets like
Japanese, Chinese, etc.
- Auto save preference
- Scaleable zoom, allowing 1) zooming at the Title
Design and Frame Edit levels and 2) selectable magnification
- Preview windows for objects (most useful for objects
like video and audio)
- Info Map, meaning that on-line documentation and all
support materials is built directly into the interface
- Detachable and customizable toolbars
- Title files can be opened directly from a web server
in read-only mode, allowing for collaborative development and approval
- New event for objects to detect one object being
dropped on another, simplifying creation of drag-and-drop exercises

Quest 6.0:
32 bit and Better Than Ever
The first native 32-bit authoring tool to hit the market,
Quest 6.0 is for those ready to take multimedia training development to the "next
level," taking advantage of the power of true multitasking available only on the
newest 32-bit operating systems. This means animations, video, audio, interactions will
run smoother, better and faster. QuickStart templates and course structures provide fully
created course shells that can be rapidly populated with content and available motifs.
WYSIWYG development environments assure that developers are productive and have easy
access to the tools they need with drag and drop ease. Object-orientation allows for
unlimited interactivity and quick development. Underlying C support assures all developers
that they will never hit a wall. New Net-centric features allow for training to be easily
published to the Net for easy consumption, either exclusively on the Net or in a hybrid
delivery environment that combines CD-ROM delivery with Net delivery.
In addition, the ActiveX support inherent to Quest 6.0
makes creating embedded, just-in-time training much easier. Training developers will be
able to embed training inside ActiveX compliant documents such as word processing files,
electronic workbooks, presentation, and even other training applications. This technology
will also make publishing Internet training much easier for less experienced authors. A
rich library of ActiveX objects such as 3-D controls, calendar objects, combo boxes,
virtual reality objects, HTML objects, Java Objects, etc. can be seamlessly implemented
and integrated directly inside Quest 6.0. Reusable ActiveX components can even be attached
directly to the Quest toolbar. Quest 6.0 offers significantly more power and flexibility
to training developers while maintaining the ease-of-use of previous Quest Windows
versions.
Quest 6.0 is a powerful system, yet the very approachable
front-end metaphor and QuickStart templates bring the power to the subject-matter expert
level. Users find the environment very easy to use, yet Quest has more power (ActiveX and
C coding) than any other authoring system.
System Requirements
For Authoring
- PC compatible, running Windows 95, 98 or NT 4.0 or higher
(NT recommended)
- Minimum Pentium 133 Processor (Pentium 200 or higher
recommended)
- Minimum 64 MEG RAM (128 MG recommended)
- SVGA graphics card
For Delivery
- PC compatible, running Windows 95, 98 or NT 4.0 or higher
- Minimum Pentium 90 processor (Pentium 133 or higher
recommended)
- Minimum 32 MEG RAM (64 MEG RAM or higher recommended)
- SVGA graphics card
Because Quest 6.0 takes advantage of the newest
technologies, it requires 32-bit, Windows operating systems only (Windows 95and
higherand Windows NT). Courses created in Quest 6.0 can only run on 32-bit playback
systems. |
